What are the two most important skills for the world of work in your opinion?

At EY, time management is one of the most important skills that you will need to make use of during your career. Each day you will be challenged to manage your time between a portfolio of clients to confirm that tasks are completed on time and to a high standard. Another important skill to have is people skills. You will be dealing with clients on a daily basis and therefore will need to effectively communicate with your clients as well as your team when resolving any queries and when obtaining necessary supporting information.

In two sentences tell us why you joined EY Financial Services.

I joined EY Financial Services as I felt like this service line had the most opportunities to get involved in due to the vast range of services provided including banking and capital markets, insurance and wealth and asset management with clients spread all over the country. Also, as a Financial Services Organization is part of EMEIA I loved the fact that I would be able to work with offices in different countries which would help me expand my network.

What advice would you give to people who are leaving school or university, and are looking for their next steps?

The advice I would give to those who are leaving school or university is to thoroughly search through the career options that EY offers. Attend career fairs and ask as many questions as you can to deepen your knowledge of EY. Whilst working at EY it has become apparent how useful LinkedIn is to employers as well as your potential clients. Therefore, I highly recommend that you (if you haven’t already) set up a LinkedIn account and start building your network.

What is the best thing about working in the Bristol office?

The people. Everyone in the office is so approachable and really friendly. From my first day at the EY office in Manchester, every one of my colleagues have been extremely supportive and have helped me to achieve some of my short term career goals. We have also recently moved to our new office at St Peter’s Square which is in a great location within the city with close transport links which proves useful when having to travel to client sites, as a lot of clients are based throughout the country.
