Through our peer-based global award program, Better Begins with You, we recognize and celebrate EY people who have found inspiring and impactful ways to bring EY’s purpose – building a better working world – to life. We spoke to Wojciech Soleniec, our Regional Winner, about his work leading a five-year transformation project.
Wojciech, congratulations to you and your team on this award! How does it feel?
I’m really proud of my team for having achieved so much, as well as the appreciation and recognition from across the region for our efforts.
We’re sure your team must be pleased; their hard work has paid off. How did they react when you told them that you’d won?
They actually told me. I was on holiday and when I came back, they had already seen the result on the Better begins with you site. So, the digital path was faster than the traditional one.
So, what do you think made your nomination stand out?
We’re a relatively new team that has grown on the basis of one project. The Everest project was a huge, multi-year transformation that changed 60% of the business of a major Polish insurance client, adding a large monetary value to EY and creating a team of professionals in the large-scale IT transformation for the banking and insurance sectors.
We completely changed the client’s project management approach to the agile methodology, which was beneficial to the project and to client relationships. We now use these competencies in the sales processes run in-market and to help our colleagues in Europe build competencies. In the recent months, we’ve also worked on portal implementation support, robotics and telematics, and we’re now preparing to start a block chain.
It’s a lot of hard work but, at the same time, extremely exciting.
Do you think Better begins with you brings our purpose to life?
We are a skeptical nation. Many years ago, when EY changed its brand, the new slogan — Building a better working world — appeared. I don’t believe many people here felt the sense of it. At least, I didn’t. But, we started with us — building a better working team.
Now, with the agile digital business transformation program, we are building better working companies. And, for the next few years, I hope that the block chain technology will enable us to build better working industries. BBWY allows us to identify the best ideas, teams and people across EY, give them the sense of recognition and appreciation, and spread that positive attitude across the whole organization.
